Forum's Ninth Annual Policy Conference: Critical Issues for Fund Directors

Today is the first day of the Mutual Fund Directors Forum's Ninth Annual Policy Conference. Each year, this event brings independent directors together with legislators, regulators, and other industry experts to discuss issues of critical concern to fund directors.

This first day of the program is of particular interest to the fund industry, as it features a keynote address by SEC Chairman, Mary L. Schapiro, in her first address to the fund industry since her appointment. In addition, SEC Commissioner Troy A. Paredes will deliver an address at lunch, and Christina M. Tchen, White House Director of Public Liaison will give remarks to the conference attendees at dinner.

The day's sessions will include panel discussions of board oversight in turbulent times, the various market regulatory reforms on the horizon, and breakout discussions on proxy voting, valuation issues, and the oversight of sub-advisers.

The program continues on Tuesday with an address by SEC Commissioner Elisse B. Walter, followed by panel discussions on building and maintaining strong board relationships with managment, as well as securities lending by funds in the current market environment.

With the SEC Chairman, two SEC Commissioners, and a member of the Obama administration, as well as panels featuring distinguished experts like Dean Shahinian of the Senate Banking Committee Staff, and Andrew J. Donohue of the SEC, as well as a host of experienced and well known independent fund directors and industry experts, the Ninth Annual Policy Conference has generated much excitement amongst fund directors and the entire fund industry.
