SEC Commissioners to Address Independent Directors, May 4 and 5

Last week, the Forum announced to its members and friends some exciting details of the agenda for the Forum's May Policy Conference in Washington, DC. In particular, we are fortunate to have two SEC commissioners addressing this year's conference. Commissioner Troy A. Paredes will deliver the keynote address over lunch on May 4, 2009, and Commissioner Elisse B. Walter will deliver the keynote remarks the morning of May 5th.

With significant changes in the way financial markets are regulated being considered in Washington, we expect that Commissioners Paredes and Walter will provide important insights into the way in which the Commission is approaching regulatory reform. Their participation in the Policy Conference will also give them an insight into how vitally important independent directors of mutual funds are to the success of future regulatory approaches.

More broadly, the conference as a whole will focus on exploring the challenges of board oversight in these difficult times. Small group breakout sessions will provide ample opportunities for personal interaction on substantive issues.
