FINRA Podcast: Role of SIPC in Protecting Brokerage Accounts

In the most recent of FINRA's investor education podcasts, experts, Dan Rutherford and Susan Sarver, discuss the role of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC) in protecting investors' brokerage accounts if the brokerage firm fails. SIPC, created in 1970, is a non-profit, non-government, membership corporation, funded by dues from member broker-dealers, whose primary role is to return funds and securities to investors in cases when the broker-dealer holding these assets becomes insolvent.

With more an more broker-dealers encountering financial difficulties, merging, or failing, understanding the role of SIPC is more important than ever to investors.
