Oversight Panel Holds Regulatory Reform Hearing

On January 14, the Congressional Oversight Panel held a public hearing on regulatory reform of the financial sector. This hearing was held in anticipation of the Panel's legislatively mandated report on financial reform, and was conducted in order to obtain information and viewpoints from experts on financial industry regulation. In order of appearance, the witnesses providing testimony were:

  • Gene L. Dodaro, Acting Comptroller General of the United States, Government Accountability Office;

  • Sarah Bloom Raskin, Commissioner of the Maryland Office of Financial Regulation;

  • Robert Shiller, Economist at Yale University;

  • Joel Seligman, President of the University of Rochester;

  • Joseph E. Stiglitz, Ph.D., Nobel Laureate and University Professor at Columbia Business School;

  • Marc Summerlin, Managing Director and Co-Founder at the Lindsey Group; and

  • Peter J. Wallison, Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.
